What is the cancellation/rescheduling policy?

In order to continue running the high quality trips that our guests are accustomed to experiencing with us, we need to know that you will show up. Once you book a trip with us your reservations are protected. Unlike the airline industry, we do not overbook our tours to hedge against potential cancellations. We are committed to providing you with the experience that you asked for, in return, we ask that you commit to honoring your reservation.

  • Your card is FULLY charged at time of booking
  • For reservations of 7 or less guests, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to scheduled tour time is required in order to receive a refund minus the booking fee of $10 USD per person. Cancellations made within 48 hours prior to the tour time will not receive a refund.
  • For reservations of 8 or more guests, a minimum of 5 days’ notice prior to scheduled tour time is required in order to receive a refund, minus the booking fee of $10 USD per person. Cancellations made within 5 days of the tour time will not receive a refund.
What happens if it is raining or bad weather?

Please remember you booked our tour, which is based on the North Side of Grand Cayman.  We do not cancel the tour UNTIL check-in time. We know many guests are driving from Georgetown, but our policy still applies.  You will need to make an effort to come to the location. We go in the rain, as long as it is just a light drizzle. We take safety very seriously and will not risk your safety nor the safety of our crew.  Should Cayman Kayaks need to cancel the tour, you will be refunded.

What is the cost?

Kayak Tour- $75 USD per person + fees

Electric Boat- $75 USD per person + fees

If other guests are also looking for pickup, we do our best to coordinate the pickups on the same dates in order to be able to offer everyone the cheapest rate of $30 USD per person. Once we confirm the pick up service, please note, the pick up time is strict and unfortunately if you are late for the pickup, the driver will leave without you and you will be charged.

Is there a weight limit?

Kayak Tour- 250 LBS Per Person
The kayaks are double kayaks, but the weight restriction is per person!

Electric Boat Tour- 270 LBS per person

Do I have to have experience kayaking?

You do not have to be an experienced kayaker to participate in our tour. We do recommend you have some previous experience paddling (canoe, kayak, paddleboard) as you will be paddling in the dark and we are on the water for a good hour.  Majority of our guests do not have any kayaking experience.

Additionally, if you cannot swim or are not completely comfortable with the ocean or the dark, this may not be an activity for you, but perhaps look at our electric bio boat tour.

Life jackets are provided and required to wear.

Can we swim?

You are allowed to swim, but our company discourages swimming to prevent fouling the water and the risk of being stung by jellyfish.

It is a fact that thousands of jellyfish live in the bay year round on the sea bed. These jellyfish have a mild sting, but it may be very uncomfortable when stung depending on the individual and where on their bodies they get stung. There may also be other species of jellyfish with a more potent sting so again, we generally discourage swimming.

However, if you are determined to swim, PLEASE ensure you arrive for the tour free of chemicals/lotions that are not reef safe from your body before the tour. Wearing a long-sleeved rash guard would be a good idea too.

Harmful chemicals/lotions in and on your skin/hair wash off your body and end up trapped in Bio Bay harming the microscopic organisms due to the low water exchange. Since the glowing creatures are trapped in the bay, allowing their glow to increase in number, this also means that if we bring pollution to the bay these pollutants foul the waters and are also trapped. Pollutants trapped in the bay take longer periods of time to be washed out or break down and decompose. Please be respectful to the natural phenomenon.

This ecosystem is fragile!  Please help us do our part to protect and preserve the bay!

Bathrooms/Change Rooms?

There are port-a-potties at Rum Point currently as the property is under construction.

How long are the tours?

1.5-2  hours duration

What do you wear?

You will get wet while kayaking or on the electric boat tour! Wear attire you feel comfortable to get wet in; swim suit, t-shirt, sandals or flip-flops. Leave a towel behind in your vehicle for your ride back.

Do I need a reservation?

Reservations are required. We suggest booking at least one week in advance to guarantee a spot.

Do you provide life vests?

Yes. We require everyone to wear a life vest on the kayak tour. We have life jackets available on the Electric Boat.

Are there mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes are NOT present out on the water for the tour. If you will be using a bug repellent, please only apply while on land before the tour and avoid any products that contain DEET. We also encourage you to wash off any spray or lotions from your arms and legs before entering the Bioluminescent Bay. These chemicals are detrimental to the Bioluminescent organism. Cayman Kayaks offers a hypoallergenic Eco-friendly repellent, IMPEDE, for sale on site. (Click here for details about this product)

Can we take pictures?
Technology is a distraction to yourselves & other guests, as well as a risk to night vision. Bioluminescence is quite difficult to capture, but if you are bringing a camera along, it will be at your own risk. You must turn off the flash and sounds.
Do you have a secure place to store my belongings while we are on tour?

There are no lockers onsite to store your belongings securely. The guides will have one little bag to lock up guests keys, but we do not have a secure place for other bags and belongings while out on tour.

If you have rented a car, you will be required to leave your belongings; bags, wallets, cameras and phones etc in your car while on tour and we will lock up your keys.

Many guests bring their own dry bag to carry their belongings with them out on tour, just please keep in mind this is at your own risk.

How will we see in the dark?

We have identification lights on each kayak for the guide as well as our guests.

Can I have my own kayak?

No. We provide two-person/double kayaks for all guests.

What happens if I'm in an odd number group?

You will be paired with the tour guide or another guest.
