Introducing Nightshift, Cayman’s Only Electric Bioluminescent Boat Tour!

Aboard the Nightshift, you will cruise to the bioluminescent bay under a beautiful night sky on Cayman Kayaks new and improved ELECTRIC BOAT! (scroll down for photos) You will not see any boat like this one we built!

Cayman Kayaks, established in 2006, is the original tour operator of Bioluminescent Tours in Grand Cayman. We specialize in providing sustainable Bioluminescent Tours by double kayak and Cayman’s only ELECTRIC BOAT. Our top notch guides will lead you through the night, teach you about this natural phenomenon, and the importance of exploring in an environment-friendly manor.

From the top deck of the electric boat, be dazzled by a sky full of stars. Our skilled Naturalist will use a laser pointer to guide you through the constellations, planets, and galaxies! Stargazing is a great way to experience nature, explore science, and ponder history.  Once anchored in the bioluminescent bay, steps will lead you to a dark room where the magic continues. You will take a seat on the observation deck, which is low to the surface of the water, so your hands and feet are able to reach in to swirl around in the glowing water.

Come experience the wonder and mystery of bioluminescence for yourself on Nightshift… a one of a kind electric boat for a one of a kind tour!

Is it safe to swim?

You are allowed to swim, but our company discourages swimming to prevent fouling the water and the risk of being stung by jellyfish.

It is a fact that thousands of jellyfish live in the bay year round on the sea bed. These jellyfish have a mild sting, but it may be very uncomfortable when stung depending on the individual and where on their bodies they get stung. There may also be other species of jellyfish with a more potent sting so again, we generally discourage swimming.

However, if you are determined to swim, PLEASE ensure you arrive for the tour free of chemicals/lotions that are not reef safe from your body before the tour. Wearing a long-sleeved rash guard would be a good idea too.

Harmful chemicals/lotions in and on your skin/hair wash off your body and end up trapped in Bio Bay harming the microscopic organisms due to the low water exchange. Since the glowing creatures are trapped in the bay, allowing their glow to increase in number, this also means that if we bring pollution to the bay these pollutants foul the waters and are also trapped. Pollutants trapped in the bay take longer periods of time to be washed out or break down and decompose. Please be respectful to the natural phenomenon.

This ecosystem is fragile!

What to Wear:

You will get wet on this tour from walking 1-2 feet in to the shallow sandy bottom to and from the boat. You will also get wet when seated down in the observation deck while interacting with the Bioluminescence. We suggest swimsuit, t-shirt, and shoes that can get wet.  Some may enjoy a long sleeve for the ride. A towel and spare dry shorts are recommended for a comfortable drive back at the end of the tour.

Accessibility On The Boat

When guests arrive at Rum Point, we meet on a sandy beach before walking to the shoreline where the boat is parked. We will walk into water that is roughly a foot deep, then walk up a sturdy staircase onto the boat. (Picture below to show the steps) From there, we kindly ask all guests to walk up a second staircase with handrails on either side and sit on a comfortable padded bench to and from the journey to the bay. Once the anchor is set, guests are able to walk down the stairs and interact with the bioluminescence from the custom designed observation deck.
