What is Bioluminescence?
Bioluminescence is defined as "Life Emitting Light." Bioluminescence is a common occurrence, however, finding an area with high concentrations on a regular basis is something not to be missed. On land we see bioluminescence is fireflies, glowworms and occasionally glowing fungi. However, in the ocean bioluminescence is much more common but extremely rare to be seen in high concentrations. Tiny microorganisms called 'Pyrodinium Bahamanse' are responsible for the captivating display. When at rest, they appear to sparkle, but when disturbed they release more light to be seen. Come and find out why these unique bays exist.

Where are you located at Rum Point?
We are a mobile company and operate from the public access to the left of Rum Point at night time only. We are not affiliated with The Rum Point Club or Red Sail Sports. Cayman Kayaks is not found at this site during the day.

Do we get wet?
Are there Mosquitoes?
Not on the water. In the summer months, there are mosquitoes on the shoreline during check-in. We ask that you remember to wash off your hands and feet once on the kayak outside the bay to ensure you don't bring harmful chemicals into the bio-bay.
What kind of kayaks do you use?
Double sit-on-top kayaks
Can I have my own kayak?
No. We provide two-person/double kayaks for all guests.
What happens if I'm in an odd number group?
You will be paired with the tour guide or another guest.
Do I have to have experience kayaking
No experience is required to enjoy this tour. If you cannot swim or are terrified of the ocean and the dark, this may not be an activity for you, but perhaps look at our electric bio boat tour.
Do you provide life vests?
Yes. We require everyone to wear a life vest.
Do you have a secure place to put keys while we are on tour?
How will we see in the dark?
We have identification lights on each kayak for the guide as well as our guests.
Can we swim?
We are trying to preserve these creatures in the bioluminescent bay so we ask our guests to be very cautious of the chemicals used on their skin and hair. Our guests have never complained about the close interaction they get to have with the Bioluminescence. You will have the opportunity to be putting your hands and feet in the water.
We do not encourage swimming on the tour for multiple reasons:
1) There are thousands of jellyfish in the bay. When guests jump in, they stir jellyfish up from the bottom of the bay and you can get stung which may be very uncomfortable.
2)Chemicals/lotions on your skin/hair put in the water harms these microscopic creatures. Please be respectful to this natural phenomenon and wash off all skin lotions, bug sprays, deodorants before the tour begins. We want to only interact with the organisms with our legs, hands and paddles.
3) It is very difficult for one to get into our sit-on-top kayaks with a life jacket on, so we ask that you do not swim.
